Focus on Fauna

Focus on Fauna is a blog-site that continues on from a wildlife fire-recovery project of the same name started by the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network in the Flowerdale and Strath Creek areas of Victoria in late 2010.

_MG_6442This project began as an investigation into how local fauna had been recovering since the fires of Black Saturday, 7 Feb 2009. Focus on Fauna was a community project to survey wildlife on fire-affected private property in parts of the Murrindindi Shire during 2011. The project used remote recording equipment on local properties to obtain a snapshot of which animals were sharing the recovering landscape. The project focused primarily on arboreal mammals, bats, frogs, invertebrates and birds.

As well as remote sensing, the project collected as much information as possible on local fauna and relied heavily on local knowledge to better target the surveys. Data obtained from the project was submitted to the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas database.

The project continues to hold information nights on nature topics and records wildlife reports from community members. If you’ve seen animals or plants of interest in the project area, please let us know-
