The Strath Creek Landcare Group’s origins can be traced back to 1991 when a small group of environmentally conscious residents formed the Strath Valley Environment Group. However, it was not until 1994 that the group first identified itself as the Strath Creek Landcare Group with about a dozen members.
Activities in the early years focused on creekline protection and revegetation, particularly along Falls Road.
Long-term president Terry Hubbard was first appointed in 1999, and instilled new life into the group, which then started to engage in a range of activities including fencing, revegetation and weed control works, field days and presentations, wildflower walks and social events, activities that continue up to the present day (see ‘Activities’ page). There was a steady growth of members to the current tally of more than 60 families from right around the district and beyond.
